Learn to make your own toner water with flowers from your garden!

Rose water is a common toner that’s easy to make and easy to find. This recipe works with roses, but I wanted to change things up and use gardenias! Gardenias have antioxidants and work as an anti-inflammatory. Use this spray on clean skin or over your makeup to hydrate and refresh your skin.

The gardenia scent is floral and sweet. Mix with vanilla essential oil to make a warmer scent.

What you’ll need:

  • 4 gardenia flowers (or roses, if you would like to make rose water)
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 1 cup of water
  • Spray bottle
  • Optional: Vanilla essential oil, or a scent of your choice. Do not mix essential oil into the spritz if you have sensitive skin! The fragrance will irritate sensitive skin.

Olive oil is full of Vitamin E that will hydrate your skin and block free radicals. Keeping free radicals from your skin prevents aging and will protect from skin damage. Olive oil is also suggested to prevent different kinds of cancers.

What to do:

Fill a pot with the water and bring to a boil. Add in the full flowers and submerge. Leave the flowers in the boiling water for 5 minutes. Then, remove the flowers from the pot and bring to a low heat. Add in the teaspoon of olive oil and stir with the water. Turn off the stove and remove the pot from heat. At this point, if you have essential oil, add it to the floral water. Pour your spritz into the spray bottle and close.

Use the spray on clean skin add extra hydration. You can also use the spritz over your makeup to keep your look dewy and fresh.
